Camp Nurse – Caruth Camp

SUMMARY

The Nurse coordinates medical services for youth in care at the Camp and is responsible for maintaining appropriate records and files pertaining to medical services.

The Nurse is directly responsible to the Camp Director.

This temporary position for the summer camp season and is not eligible for overtime.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES

The following duties and responsibilities are given as examples of the various types of work performed in this position. Other duties and responsibilities may be assigned.

1. Portrays compassion and hospitality when providing medical care to the youth in program as well as seasonal camp staff. Completes youth and staff assessments on an initial and ongoing basis, including physical, dental, vision, hearing and other areas according to American Camp Association guidelines.

2. Assists the Camp Director in the initial review of camper applications to determine appropriateness for the camp program based on medical issues.

3. Uses thoroughness and discretion while dispensing medications and maintaining accurate medical files for participants of programs.

4. Practices alertness and truthfulness in keeping the Camp Director informed of medical concerns, safety issues, and incident follow-up.

5. Exhibits enthusiasm and persuasiveness during leadership of medical and safety related trainings for staff.

6. Demonstrates resourcefulness and thriftiness in the wise stewardship of the agency’s resources when ordering and maintaining medical supplies for all of Camp. Ensures the orderliness of supplies and equipment are adequate and inventoried regularly.

7. Expresses gentleness and attentiveness when arranging for the medical care of youth in program including regularly scheduled or emergency services. Maintains good public relations with the medical community as a liaison between Youth Ranches and doctors, emergency rooms, pharmacies and other medical providers.

8. Prepares medical standing orders and has local doctor approve and sign camps medical procedures and standing orders annually prior to summer camp. Displays dependability and flexibility when assisting other staff members with tasks as needed or approved by Camp Director.

9. Practices diligence and orderliness when completing required paperwork such as medical administration records, medication log sheets, incident reports, and time sheets.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

The person filling this position must be a graduate of an accredited nursing program and currently licensed as a Nurse with the State of Florida (requires licensure as a Registered Nurse.) Previous experience in the nursing field, particularly dealing with youth is preferred.

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each area of responsibility satisfactorily. The requirements listed are representative of the knowledge, skills, and/or abilities required.

1. Must possess a sound knowledge of medical procedures.

2. Must have the ability to make proper judgments in times of crises.

3. Must have the ability to maintain accurate records and prepare necessary reports.

4. Must have knowledge of medical equipment and its use.

5. Must present an example of good health and hygienic practices.

6. Must have the ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, and government regulations; ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedural manuals; ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups.

7. Must have the ability to calculate figures and amounts, such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, volume, and ability apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

8. Must have the ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions; ability to interpret extensive variety of instructions; ability to deal with problems involving variety of situations.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

The physical requirements described are representative of those that must be met by the employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to perform the essential functions.

The employee is regularly required to stand, walk, sit, listen, talk, use hands/fingers, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, reach with hands and arms and taste or smell. The employee may occasionally lift and/or move objects weighing up to 25 pounds.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Work is generally performed in an office environment. Incumbent’s duties may cause exposure to blood, body fluids, or tissues

BASE SALARY

$800.00 Weekly.
