Food Services Specialist

SUMMARY

The Food Services Specialist assists the Director of Food Services in the preparation and serving of food at the Boys Ranch Cafetorium.  

The Food Services Specialist reports directly to the Director of Food Services

This position is eligible for overtime pay.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The following duties and responsibilities are given as examples of the various types of work performed in this position.  Other duties and responsibilities may be assigned.

  1. Assists in the preparation and serving of food for youth, staff, and guests of the facility in a friendly and efficient manner.
  • Maintains the cleanliness and attractiveness of foods, food processing equipment, and the kitchen and dining areas.  
  • Cleans kitchen area, including cooking and serving dishes and utensils, removal of debris, sweeping and mopping floors, food storage, etc.
  • Provides assistance to the Director of Food Services to ensure that quality food services and health standards are maintained at all times.  
  • Provides assistance to the Director of Food Services in the requisitions of food, supplies, deliveries, stocking, and inventories of food and other merchandise necessary for meeting the needs of the program.
  • Will provide housekeeping services for the Ranch House. This includes but is not limited to the cleaning, vacuuming, changing and washing linens, washing dishes, and ensuring proper supplies are in place at the Ranch House.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

The person filling this position must have a high school diploma or GED.  Prior food service or commercial kitchen experience is preferred.   

In accordance with F.S. 509.049, this person must possess training in food service and be able to provide their ServeSafe certification.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each area of responsibility satisfactorily.  The requirements listed are representative of the knowledge, skills, and/or abilities required.

  1. Must possess working knowledge of the use and care of kitchen equipment.
  • Must have the ability to follow assigned schedules and interact with youth and staff in a positive manner.
  • Must have the ability to be flexible in working with various types of individuals in problem solving.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

The physical requirements described are representative of those that must be met by the employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.  Reasonable accommodations may be made to perform the essential functions.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, sit, talk, hear and reach with hands and arms.  The employee may occasionally lift and/or move objects weighing up to 25 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close, distance, color, peripheral, depth perception and the ability to focus.

WORKING CONDITIONS Work is performed in and around the kitchen area with exposure to heat, cold, fumes, and steam; utilizes food prep kitchen utensils daily and works extensively near moving mechanical parts.  The noise level of the work environment is loud.

BASE SALARY                   $15.00 Hourly – Part-time 25 hours per week
