Supervisor of Maintenance II

SUMMARY

The position of Supervisor of Maintenance II involves supervising the maintenance program of the Florida Sheriffs Boys Ranch. The person in this position is fully responsible for maintaining an adequate amount of equipment and supplies on hand at the Ranch to facilitate efficient maintenance work. This position involves day to day maintenance work and the supervision of all maintenance personnel.

The Supervisor of Maintenance II is expected to work within the philosophy, aims, goals, and operating procedures of the Florida Sheriffs Youth Ranches. The Supervisor of Maintenance II is directly responsible to the Boys Ranch Business Manager. Work performance is reviewed through supervisory conferences and annual performance evaluations.

This position is exempt from overtime pay.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The following duties and responsibilities are given as examples of the various types of work performed in this position. Other duties and responsibilities may be assigned.

1. Responsible for providing direct supervision of all maintenance personnel.

2. Responsible for requesting supplies as needed for maintenance and repairs of buildings, grounds, and equipment.

3. Responsible for securing bids on maintenance related items, where applicable, and overseeing work progress by outside services.

4. Responsible for maintaining the Maintenance Tracking Program and assuring completion of maintenance requests.

5. Responsible for planning, organizing, and working on maintenance projects on a day-to-day basis while keeping records on buildings, equipment, and facilities.

6. Responsible for overseeing the contractual operation of the sewage system and the drinking water system and performing maintenance on those facilities and maintaining records.

7. Responsible for ensuring all buildings, grounds, and equipment are maintained in

appearance and operational function through proper delegation, supervision and hands on processes.

8. Responsible for utilizing routine jobs to teach youth work ethic and maintenance skills to enhance their learning experience.

9. Assist in the development of plans for new construction projects for Youth Ranches programs.

10. Responsible for making after hour emergency maintenance calls on nights, holidays, and weekends.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

The person filling this position must be a high school or vocational school graduate with five years experience in the maintenance field and two years in a supervisory capacity.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each area of responsibility satisfactorily. The requirements listed are representative of the knowledge, skills, and/or abilities required.

1. Must possess a thorough knowledge of repair and maintenance functions in the areas of carpentry, plumbing, sewage, electrical, painting, air conditioning, and other general areas in the maintenance field.

2. Must have the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the staff and youth.

3. Must have the ability to supervise and instruct personnel under the supervision of the position.

4. Must have considerable knowledge of materials and supplies needed to effectively operate a maintenance department.

5. Must have the ability, through proper planning, to develop an excellent maintenance program and follow through system.

6. Must have a valid Florida Driver License and be able to maintain a safe driving record consistent with agency policy.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, sit, hear, talk, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance. The employee is extensively required to use hands to fingers and reach with hands and arms.

The employee regularly lifts and/or moves objects weighing up to 10 pounds and occasionally lifts items weighing over 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close, distance, color, peripheral, depth perception and the ability to focus.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Because of the professional nature of this position and the responsibilities carried, the number of hours worked per week is flexible. A minimum of forty (40) hours is expected to carry out in full all of these duties and the schedule will be worked out with the Business Manager so that the maximum service to the agency is obtained.

Work is generally performed in outdoor weather conditions to include wet, humid conditions. The employee is occasionally working in high, precarious places and near fumes or airborne particles. The employee is extensively working near moving mechanical parts. The noise level of the work environment is loud in nature.

BASE SALARY                  $37,440 Annually
